This book could be called a whirlwind. It moves quickly and one never knows where our girl will end up. I like how her mind works, how she eventually learns what to do. Of course she has some help from her grandmother, but having to be so careful not to make those ripples. I highly recommend this series and can’t wait to read the next two books.
Loved the premise and the writing is fresh. I did feel cheated that it ends halfway through the story, which I suppose is continued in the next 2 books.
Really believable fun time travel story. Amazing to see Australian places and language. Can't wait to read the next one.
This is a really good book. It is a variation on any other time travel book I’ve come across. The concept of creating ripples is so intriguing and I can’t wait to see what happens next.
What a fun, though at times tragically real, new novel on time travel. Jackson’s main characters are convincing. The author’s intense narrative gives the reader a renewed experience of youthful enduring romantic love. There are no talky slow parts in the story; instead, riveting suspense continues throughout the book, building to a fulfilling climax. Also, there are creative unexpected plot twists. And it’s fun to experience a bit of Australian local background.Furthermore, time traveling in this story turns out to be not only exciting, but it also often has tragic results. For instance, Caitlyn’s Gran, a previous time traveler, seeks to do good back in the past but her changes drastically change the present.Three accolades go to the author for her creative title, The Ripple Effect. The image comes from one central episode where the traveler sees a boy throw stones into a pond. Jackson uses that as an analogy to reflect on the nature of life and time. Very good theme. On the negative side, though the novel isn’t glutted with constant cursing like too many recent books, there are a few f-bombs that show up for no reason this reviewer can see. (Having worked as a trucker, I used to constantly here obscene and profane talk, especially dehumanizing f-words, so it is very distracting in a good inspiring story.)Don’t miss this exciting time travel novel.
